SMART Balustrades has reached a significant company milestone with the receipt of our 1,111th order, awarded for the Brentwood Leisure Centre refurbishment located on Doddinghurst Road, Pilgrims Hatch, Brentwood, Essex (CM15 9NN).

The project is being delivered in partnership with Vincent Stokes and forms part of an upgrade programme to modernise the existing leisure facility while improving safety and accessibility for users.

For SMART Balustrades, the 1,111th order represents continued growth as a specialist subcontractor providing design, manufacture, supply and installation of compliant stainless steel and glass balustrade systems across the UK construction sector.

Project Overview

The Brentwood Leisure Centre refurbishment involves the replacement and installation of new internal balustrades and stainless steel gate systems within key circulation areas of the facility.

Leisure centres present a particularly demanding environment due to high daily footfall and constant public use. Balustrade systems therefore need to provide robust structural performance, durability and low maintenance while meeting all relevant safety standards.

Working alongside Vincent Stokes, SMART Balustrades has been appointed to design, supply and install a series of stainless steel balustrade and handrail systems to replace existing installations within the building.

• Toughened glass infill panels to maintain visibility across circulation spaces while providing compliant edge protection
• SMART Vivo Steel – Stainless steel gate systems installed in key access locations to control movement between operational areas

All systems are being designed in accordance with the relevant loading requirements and safety standards applicable to public buildings, ensuring compliance with UK regulations for balustrade performance in areas of high footfall.

Particular attention has been given to installation detailing, including secure base plate fixings and appropriate anchoring methods to suit the existing structural substrate within the refurbishment.
