A SMART Finish for Jellicoe Court
SMART Balustrades is proud to showcase one of our recent projects at Jellicoe Court, a well-established residential development located in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. Working in close partnership with GS Kelsey Construction, we were tasked with supplying and installing a range of bespoke balustrade and handrail systems. The result is a safe, modern and visually appealing finish that complements the character of the building and enhances the experience for residents.
Creating Safe, Stylish and Lasting Solutions
This project involved a comprehensive scope of work, both internally and externally. On the outside of the building, we were responsible for the installation of our SMART professional powder-coated balustrade system to the first-floor balconies. These spaces are an important part of Jellicoe Court, giving residents the opportunity to enjoy fresh air and open views, so it was crucial that the design combined practicality with aesthetics.
We achieved this by installing powder coated posts and a part-curved top rail, which were paired with 11.5mm thick clear toughened laminated glass infill panels. The glass was faceted with precision to fit the curved sections, creating a seamless flow while maintaining unobstructed views. The system was side-fixed at two points, set at a height of 1100mm from the finished floor level and engineered to meet a loading requirement of 0.74kN. The finished result is a durable and elegant balcony feature that delivers both safety and style.
Inside the development, we continued the same high standard of workmanship with the installation of balustrades to the main staircase. Once again, our SMART professional powder-coated balustrade system was selected for its strength and refined appearance. This installation featured powder coated posts and a top rail, complemented by clear laminated glass panels, which were toughened to 11.5mm thickness.
The panels were secured using a combination of side fixings and base plate fixings, the latter concealed neatly with cover roses to ensure a clean finish. The balustrades ranged between 900mm and 1100mm in height, meeting the same 0.74kN loading requirement as the balcony system. Together, these elements create a safe and modern feature within the internal circulation areas, blending seamlessly into the overall interior design of the property.
To complete the staircase works, we also supplied and installed powder coated wall-fixed handrails. Manufactured from a 42mm diameter handrail and supported with sturdy wall rail brackets, these handrails provide residents with comfort and reassurance while ascending or descending the stairs. Their understated design allows them to perform a practical role without detracting from the visual appeal of the balustrade system.
